Depends if you are still in your minimum term contract or not, if you cancel within term then of course you will be charged a early termination fee.
The special offer is not relevant, the length of the contract is.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

If you decide to end the contract within the 18 month minimum term, you will incur a single charge of £7.50(on the Unlimited Weekend and Unlimited Evening & Weekend plans) or £8.00(on the Unlimited Anytime plan) for each month left of the minimum term.

However if you move home and retain an account with BT you can take the remaining minimum term of your chosen calling plan with you.

all i want to do is change it over for now. But if the line needs reconnecting at the new house would i get charged the £124 even though am with them?

If a new line is needed, yes (£124.99).

However, if there's recently been a BT line there, you will prbably get a free reconnection.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
