potatoes are best kept cool but frostfree in a dark place, it is cheaper to buy maincrop potatoes in large paper sacks, dont store them where there are mice though, otherwise i just keep my new potatoes in a pail as they are soon used, but in the dark0

Have you experienced any probs getting spuds recently. I usually buy a 56 lb bag which lasts me over a month. My supplier was selling them at £3 a bag until last month when he couldn't any for less than £6. He knew that people wouldn't pay that so he so he is "resting" at the moment. I know that there are times during the year when they are sprouting (I have found a few supermarkets that have cornered the market in these) but aren't new spuds being harvested roundabout now ? Heard a bit on the radio the other day about the farmers complaining (don't they always) about the lack of rain and how it will impact upon potatoe prices shortly.0

Thanks ,yes they are harvesting near us right now ,look ok to me,especially the ones fallen by the wayside if you know what I mean, seems a shame to just leave them there.0

As twink says you should store potatos in a cool, dark place. You also shouldn't keep them in a plastic bag, a paper or hessien sack is better as it lets them breathe.0

Or you could leave them in the ground just dig up those you need for the next few days!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

We store ours in a cotton pillowcase in the cupboard under the stairs - still on the pack I bought end of June and they haven't sprouted yet.The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0
