call centres

How about starting a thread about foreign call centres, and if there were enough of us, perhaps we could start boycotting them.

I find its so annoyng to be paying for a premium rate call for people at the other end of the phone not being able to understand what is being said therefore it has to be repeated.

It apparently saves the consumer money, but am sure these companies make vast profits.

And as for outsourcing typing to India from the NHS, more redundancies in the NHS!!!!

I say boycott them, spend the money in Gt. Britain

There have been 100's of threads on foreign call centres in the past.

We live in a global economy and trade with other countries.

As for buying British goods, ye right. Have a look to see where the clothes you are wearing are made from. See where the parts of your computer were made. The car you drive, where were the components made? The packaging for your food, where was that made? I could go on for ever.

WE LIVE IN A GLOBAL ECONOMY NOT SOME CLOSED FOTRESS, DEAL WITH IT.

I too hate foreign call centres, I think the service is awful.

This is a really good site that has been posted here before:

I think some companies are waking up to the annoyance of these call centres, for example the recent direct line and churchill ads.

It's not the fault of the overseas call centres themselves, but the UK companies who are inept and recruiting and training them. You only have to look at a few UK call centres to know that although they speak the same language they are still useless. Without naming bad names the only good call centre I've called in some time is the First Direct bank.

Prehaps people should just realise you get what you pay for? If you look at any of the companies which are setup to target the mass-affluent market you will find slightly higher prices but a much better quality of service (and often product too).

Cheapest doesnt mean best... have to decide your own optimum balance between price and quality

It's a short sighted view of the companies that use them as it's a false economy. The companies that grow rapidly and people are loyal to are the ones with excellent customer service where the company has made it a priority to make the customer happy. The number of times I've had a "John" or "Mary" call me where I literally had to hang up because I couldn't even understand a word they were saying is ridiculous.

I use Natwest, as far as I'm aware they use UK call centres. The service I have received from them is shocking. They are polite but unhelpful on the occasions I have had the misfortune to contact them. I don't think it's just "Overseas" callcentres we should be arguing against, it's poor service from "All" call centres.

False economy for the call centres to be based in other countries imo. The consumer (well, I'm talking about me) WILL change to a different company if not satisfied, therefore they lose custom. I did this with my car insurance because I didn't want to deal with an Indian call centre. It's not their fault, it's just cheap labour for the companies involved.

I completely agree, which is why I didn't specify overseas customer service just that good customer service is required. When I was with O2 for my mobile their customer support was UK based but because it was so rubbish I completely chenged operators and have no plans to ever go back to them.

I had and experience with asda's call center today (HO alledgedly) - I'm judging by the three people i spoke to who's english was negligable that they were not in the uk, but who knows.

It was a personell (HR) call so difficult to give details, but
I asked them to check the spelling of a name, (he kept refering to 'mark' as her) they said they couldn't put it in writting?? (who mentioned writting)
When they asked me for a persons title, they gave master or masseur as my options (no s&m comments please!)

Put me right of shopping with them i'd hate to have to deal with their customer service.
BUT I do have freinds who've gone to india and trained their call center staff, the main problem is that they grab the first thing they think they hear and run with it, anything that comes after that, or if they got it wrong in the first place, you've no chance!
