Can my friend send this?

A very good friend of mine has been through the mill a bit but her hard time was made a hell of a lot easier by the staff of her BDC being so proactive and she was thinking of sending a box of chocolates to the staff with a card as a thank you.
I'm not sure if they can accept this? - A few years back (after the terrorist attacks) there was a big hoo-ha where staff in governement offices were not allowed to accept boxes of chocolates and the like from customers in case they had been tampered with.
Is this still the case?
She's struggling to think of an alternative thank you gift. I've suggested instead of a box of chocolates (in case it creates a fuss) she should perhaps write a letter to the manager of the BDC telling him/her what fabulous staff he/she has, and naming the ones she has dealt with so that it is recognised what a good job they did. How would staff in a BDC feel about this?

It would be better to write a letter to the manager to explain how helpful the staff were and if possible ask for copies of the letter to be passed to the individuals concerned so that they could keep a copy for appraisal time.0

I agree with this.
When someone sends a gift to my employees its very nice.
But a letter commending them (and explaining why!) held on their file is a very precious thing!

If they cannot accept a gift, perhaps she could give a small gift to a relevant charity instead, and send the suggested letter but also saying what she has done.
I once had someone send me a pizza at work ...Gone ... or have I?0 -
A pizza?! Why in the world?0

So refreshing to hear of someone wanting to say thank you to the staff who helped them through their hard time! And no, I don't work in any of the offices in any of those fields.
I would agree with the naming names if she knows them - as come appraisal time, I'm sure they would be treated as gold as far as the employees go. That aside, chocolates are very thoughtful and would be very much enjoyed I'm sure - but......you never know if nut allergy might be a problem, or if someone unable to resist them is on a diet and has been doing very well!
I do have an outdoor wooden planter that was sent to me one year by a customer - has a small evergreen in it, and a perennial trailing plant of some kind, and I just replace the annual in it each year - but I do remember the kind words that came with it every time I see it.0 -
When anyone of my close family leave hospital i never fail to buy a box of chocolates on the day that i go to pick them up.
In the eighties my OH was in and out of hospital in one particular year it was costing me a blumming fortune.
I once took a couple of packets of Ainsley Harrisons luxury chocolate ginger biscuits and i got a call from a nurse later on asking where i got them because she wanted to buy some more and other nurses wanted to know too.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
