Hi all ... not sure any one will know but here goes ....I had some news last week about carers allowance that basically i was owed a fair few thousand well £7965 when i called i had too ask a few times that it was owed too me and yes seems so, well i was on benefits well incapacity benefit and then i stopped claiming(Started working part time) but wasn't getting carers so they said 'Yes its yours' so my question is how long would it take to sort this amount out i am just grateful of it as having a disabled child i have a large amount of debt which this will wipe off, so we can start again

:( Sorry to be a downer - I have a disabled child (now 21 years) and for years we were told that we could not claim carers allowance because my husband was retired and on a pension - turns out that was wrong. He has a private pension from his job and is only 59 so not OAP - so he does qualify. But they refused to back date it the 5 years owed. Would only pay from the date of application - even though we queried it every year.

So I think its a question of WHEN they placed you on their records as a carer.

If you were recorded as a carer while claiming ICB then you are in with a chance. either way GET THAT APPLICATION IN ASAP

    GOOD LUCK

hi Jmaster ... i had the letter today stating the amount owed and why it was for four years and they said its mine i just have to wait ..fair enough i understand but as expected i asked the ladyon the phone if it was right ...seems so when your on incapacity you cannot claim carers i did even know anything about carers allowance and my son had been on DLA for years so they said it was their error !
