Made redundant!

Options
Hi all, I wonder if you could help! I help set up a new food establishment for a business man, I designed the logo, came up with the new menu (wording and foods, not design) worked for them as a head chef for 1 yr. I redecorated the place single handed! I was never on a contract.

They have decided to let me go as they cant 'afford' me anymore! My severance was 1 weeks wage.

But because of the logo i designed (I have proof of this) and the menu I came up with. I think I should be rewarded a little more for it.

I feel they used me for my experience within the catering trade. False promises has cost me a year of my time.

  • Under employment law, unfortunately I dont believe there is a lot you can do here, you would not be entitled to any more under statute (but would be entitled to any accrued holidays yo uhave not taken). I am assuming you were considerd an amployee, not a consultant? There maybe something yo can do outside of employment law - may be worth getting advise from CAB on this?

If you have worked there under two years you are not entitled to redundancy pay and as GG says, any other payments (other than holiday) that they may give you are totally discretionary

You may wish to politely enquire if they will make an extra payment to you as a goodwill gesture - it can't hurt to ask but if they say no don't kick up a fuss as they will be writing your references.
