What website to check a car?

Options
Im thinking of buying a car - what site would people recommend for checking the car history for insurance write-offs and the like? I can find plenty on google but the prices vary from site to site. Do they all check the same database?

Thanks in advance :)

    Check MOT history here.
  • I think the information all comes from the same sources, but yesterday I carried out a car check through autotrader (powered by Experian) and it brought up a mileage discrepancy recorded by BVRLA and RMI, yet another check through the HPI website did not pick this up which I find strange. Trying to figure out what's going on with this at the minute. Otherwise mycarcheck.com seem good at only £3.95 and they have a guarantee up to £20,000.

(The reason I couldn't use mycarcheck is because I'm in NI and it doesn't have access to the DVANI database)

Remember that none of the sites will tell you if the car has been involved in an accident and repaired rather that written off.

You still need to check the car thoroughly for overspray etc as a repaired car may have issues (galvanising may be compromised leading to premature rusting etc)

A good one to use is "mycarcheck.com" it will do all the important checks needed to ensure the car is a sound buy as it checks....

    Colour changes
    Plate Transfer
    Scrapped
    Exported
    Stolen
    Stolen & Recovered
    Insurance Write-off
    Vehicle I.D. Check

Finance Protection.... you will need to get hold of the purchaser receipt or a copy of to check this .
