we went to argos today to collect a lawn mower we reserved online yesterday.

when we went to collect they told us someone had over riden the computer, and sold the one we had reserved.

all the other stores in our area, are sold out of this particuler model, so i asked if they would sell me the next model up for the same price, as a gesture of good will, the model we wanted was 50 pound, the next one up is 60 pound.

there reply was, they can't sell a 60 pound item for as little as 50 pound, but they would knock 2 pound of the price.

i ended up so disgusted at the way they were treating us i walked out before i totaly lost faith in them as a company

is there anything i can do or complain to, surley they shouldn't over ride the computer if something is reserved, they couldn't ask the manager who had sold it as he was off duty and left before we arrived

  • That's really irritating, and I didn't think it was possible.

I once bought a camera from them, and it didn't charge. I think it was a misprice from a while back. Everywhere was out of stock apart from the Holloway branch.

I couldn't get there until later in the day, and it was too early for anyone to be in the store, so I reserved the one remaining camera so I could swap it there and then.

When I got there later that day, the agreed to take the broken one back, but the till system would not let them directly give me the reserved one as a replacement.

In the end they had to refund followed by me buying the other camera.

    Accidents happen.

Why would selling a product for significantly less than its retail price be a "gesture of goodwill"? It sounds more like a diabolical business plan......

Have you considered getting therapy for your anger issues. Someone sold the lawnmower you had reserved, get over it, it wasn't yours until you had paid for it.

Feel free to complain that you were treatly unfairly because you didnt get a freeby, it wont accomplish anything but might give the staff at head office a laugh

I know at christmas people "reservation surf" to try and get hard to find items. This involves using the self serve tills and putting in res numbers higher and lower than yours until they hit something they want.

    Sad, but true.

This is a service provided by Argos to make shoppin with them a little bit easier. I think I would be a bit miffed if some twerp decided to sell my reserved item, especially if it is the last one.

The manager probably bought it knowing it was the last one. Go down and question him about it.

I try and avoid Argos and Homebase, I detest the two companies.

I think there offer of £2 was good of them, Sometimes mistakes happen i know i have had my fair share of them with Argos. Do not forget you would have also got a FREE £5 voucher for spending over £50.

did i say i wanted a freeby? no

how can you say i have anger issues?, all i mean was i left before i totaly lost faith in them as a company, and decided to never use them again. by leaving i feel i can go back and try them again when i feal like trusting them again.

did you just reserve or reserve and pay?

    bloody cheeky either way.

I use the reserve if i can't get to argos straight away, i use it because i am disabled and if had gone in and found my item sold on i would be very angry (no i don't need anger management)

isn't there some kind of agreement here, they agree to reserve your item... or were you out of the time slot and they thought you might not be coming to get it?
