Question about renting, help please!

Options
I am a first time renter/buyer. preferably I am looking to buy a house/flat, but as I am not able to get a good mortgage the price will have to be under 100k so its hard to find one in this economic state we are in! but until then I would like to get a 1 bed flat to test the waters so to speak.

I believe most house sellers list there houses at a higher price than they think they could get, and buyers negotiate a lower cost so both parties agree on a price they are both happy with.

My question is, does this apply with the rental market?

If the pcm price is £500 do I just accept this is the definate price or do I haggle?

Thanks! :)

You can attempt to haggle on the rental price, i would.

Not sure how it'll go, it depends on the area and how much rental is in demand. I know where i am people generally pay whatever is asked without question and if the house is in a particularly nice area of town sometimes a bidding war happens as rental houses are few and far between in these areas.

I was thinking about haggling, but then I don't want to loose out on a nice flat because I tried negotiating....
