Returning item-Opinions wanted please

:hello: Bought CD/MP3 player, paid with PayPal, item faulty, seller offered refund/replacement, requested refund, seller sent address to return faulty item. (With me so far?).
Ok, not an expensive item (£10 inc P&P)
Postage was £3.15, 1st class no signature needed. (delivery cost of faulty item)
Seller states in his listing that he will not refund the cost of return P&P on faulty goods.
Am I correct in saying
The refund will be made via PayPal for the original £10 inc P&P
I return the item at my expense.
I need proof of posting, do I send 1st class as seller did or pay more to ensure it can be tracked?.
I am then out of pocket by at least £3.15 which seller states he will not refund
The only way I could get the return P&P back is to file a NPS dispute (but he has offered to refund/replace so this would not be the case)
So do I pay the return P&P and put it down to experience
What would be your advice on feedback, (so far seller has been ok albeit his responses are curt but not a hanging offence so would not consider a Neg, Neutral maybe or a Bland Pos?).
All opinions gratefully received.:undecided
Thanks

The easiest way would be to raise a dispute through Paypal- you will have to return the item via trackable means, but you will get the original purchase price plus the P&P back.

However, I'm not too sure if you will get the 'extra' P&P cost back so it it could work out cost negative.

I had to return an item of clothing this week as it was mis-sized, the seller agreed to refund postage, however, I sent the item back special delivery (about £1.75 more than the 1st Recorded they'd used) and they refunded the £3.79 I'd originally paid.

It was an item I wanted so for the sake of a pound or so I left it.

    Hope it helps.

Just an important point... if you send the item back, DON'T send it back 1st class like he did. Make it recorded.

As for the clothing - if the item was worth less than £32 there was no need to send it special delivery.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
