My son used to love fingering, playing with different textured pieces of fabric. It was one of the things i could leave him doing (just changing fabrics every 10 mins when he needed something new) this, and get on with some housework.

U can also try using one of those baby carriers, and carry her around while your doing 'jobs'. It gives her plenty to look at and watch.

When older - a deepsided tray (or an unused cat litter tray - try Wilkos they usually have them cheap) with a mix of cornflour and water is great fun for making trails in with your fingers - it's got the most bizarre texture to it!

A friend had a little girl who was obsessed with the hoovering - so gave her a battery operated dust buster one and got a sneaky bit of housework out of her rather than buying her a pretendy hoover!
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • These are amazing ideas, thank you! It's not just about saving money, I'm trying to encourage her to be interested in the world not just plastic toys.
Treasure Chests sound perfect - a friend recommend them actually. She's an EYP (early years professional) so I always assume she knows what she's talking about (and she's a great mom!). I might just print this page out and keep safe, great ideas! Thank you everyone!
