Amex Platinum Credit Limit

in Credit cards
I've just received my amex platinum cashback card in the post and am hoping to buy a new apple laptop. The problem is that the credit limit that I have been given is insufficient to cover the cost of the laptop that I want..... obviously I got this card to get the cashback reward and want to use it if I can. So I spoke to Amex customer services about raising the limit by £200 and unsurprisingly they weren't keen, so I asked whether I could "load" the credit card with £200 thereby covering my shortfall to then make my purchase..... I was told that it was possible but that she could/would not advise it as I would effectively be using the card as a debit card.... I questioned the lady further and she said that I would not be able to do it via their website, or over the phone but could in theory make a payment to the card via my bank..... but that she wouldn't advise it......!
Anyone had a similar experience? Shall I go for it??

Would whoever you are buying from accept most of the money by credit card and the remainder by debit card? This would seem an easier option. You would still be covered under S75.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

Just double check with them with regards to cover as if you are in credit you may not be covered for the additional amount, i.e if you have a £500 limit and £200 credit and the lap top is 700, if you need to claim for any reason you may only be covered for the £500.....Hope that makes sense, also you may not be able to get the cashback on the credit and again only on the £5000

You are probably not covered for fraud/theft of any credit balance.
In general credit card providers insure THEIR money (debit balance) and not YOUR money (credit balance).
If you plan on only having that balance for a few days then the risk is minimal.0 -
Thanks for your replies. Turns out Apple accept up to 3 cards on a purchase...... Not too fussed about the credit card cover etc, just want as much Amex cashback as possible!0

Just use the Amex card for most of the payment and use another card
