Used Blackberry Advice Please

Son got himself a used BB from Ebay, but can't access the internet with it. A quick google talks of BES (?), but is there anyway of uninstalling the existing software that prevents him using it fully and updating it?

Thanks.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

its BIS he needs (BES is the corporate/business version) (basically for a blackberry to work you can't use normal internet like any other phone you need blackberry internet service aka BIS)
Most networks will only give you the BIS service if you take a blckberry from them so he may find it difficult, is the phone sim locked to a network?

No it isn't. It used to be vodaphone, now it takes any apart from 3. It makes calls and things.

If you downlaod Opera Mini you can browse the internet with an ordinary data account, you only need BIS if you want either to use the BB native browser or if you want push email.

I posted my post because post 2 indicated it ws difficult to get a BB tariff if you did not buy from the provider.
