What benefits if hubby goes onto SSP?

I wonder if someone can advise.
Hubby has had an op which he initially told me was going to be 10 days recovery time - however I think he lied to me about this as it says on his sick note for work that he has been signed off for '10 days or until better', which he thought was funny. He then said to me 'that it could take a while to heal' but I am not laughing about it as he only get's 10 days full sick pay from work and after this he goes onto SSP (?).
Can someone please advise on what I what happens benefits wise while he is on SSP. We have 2 kids, one gets MR DLA, and I get carers allowance. We already get the higher rate CTC as we earn under 25k. I work and get around £1500 pa, it is my own business (its been more a hobby since I had DS but I delcare the small amount of money that I earn). We live in a HA house.
I am not sure on timescales on applying for things but want to be prepared should the worst come to the worst and he goes onto SSP, what do I have to do, can someone please advise me as I am cacking it about losing his income each month 'until he is better' (whatever that means), thank you.

Hi. Depending on how long your hubby has worked with his job for, they might pay him full, i know with me, i get 5weeks paid sick. If on SSP, You will have to phone tax credits and keep them posted and up to date with everything!!!
You should defo get something extra as they household income has gone down... phone tax credits or go onto google and search tax credits calculator. I think they have a benifits checker on here.0 -
Thanks, no, we know they are not paying him in full the first day is no pay then the next 10 it is full pay then onto SSP. He has been there 3 or 4 years now I think.
OK, great, I will do that then and then revert back to the normal amount when he goes back to work.
I suppose part of me is more worried that he might get the sack because there is no definite date for him to come back - the bosses are already looking to cut back on employees. I know that they cannot sack you when you are ill but that does not stop some companies does it.
Thank you.0
