Oven door shattered/ Insurance. How does it work?

Oven door outside glass shattered the other day. It is a built in appliance so counts as fixture and fittings. However i have phoned insurance and they want £200 excess so stated i will get back to them. Fair enough but how would it work in getting it fixed? The oven is an old budget MFI hygena model. No way to find actual model, have looked everywhere except the back of oven. As its built in to worktop etc not that easy.

Anyway to replace glass etc or anything at a cost of below £200 they say we can not claim as its not worth me paying £200 when it costs less to fix. Also if they do replace door for £200 we could near enough buy a new oven so not reallt worth claiming.

As its an old model and non existant nowadays could the insurance company actually reccommend a new oven under the insurance claim and therefore make it worth paying the £200 excess.

Do we have to commit to a claim over the phone or can we wait and see what their surveyor/ engineer advises after taking a look at the oven.

40% protected no claims so it wont affect premium i hope.

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

If you cant figure out the model, I would put the £200 towards a new one. Claiming on your insurance will almost certainly put up your premiums (although you keep the discount - thats protected.....) so it costs you more in the long run.

Did you have the kitchen fitted? If so do you still have the receipts or documentation which might identify it?

It absolutely will affect future premiums - you'll have a claim to declare. That coupled with the £200 excess means it's probably cheaper for you to just pay for the oven replacement yourself.

they are not going to replace a cheap oven with a 400/600 quid model.
    forget it and move on.
insurance is only there for major disasters. the excess takes care of minor frivolous claims. just like your car.
also they get it back next year on your premiums.
and just try going elsewhere with a claim history!

Is it just the glass that's smashed? Is it just a glass 'window' that sits inside the frame? If that is the case could you just get a new glass panel? If you look on espares.co.uk, you might be able to recognise the part. Or find a local appliance repair person in your area and get them to come and give you a quote?

This espares page will help you find the model number. It may well be on the back of the appliance.

Armed with the model number, you will probably be able to get the glass.

It is quite easy to replace the glass. You can find videos on espares site or utube.
