hi,
iv just recieved a bill for my gas but i am on a prepayment meter.
someone from the energy board ( something along those lines) came round to check the meter and told me they did not know who lived here even thou i did have a confirmation letter for my electric but id signed up for dual fuel....... any way they now reckon i owe them money from january to present . its about 160 pounds .
how can this be ?

How can you end up owing money on a prepayment meter?
Lots of ways. e.g. the meter is not calibrated correctly so is not charging the correct unit price, the bill is produced to an estimated reading, etc, ... or in your case as it seems you are not known to the energy provider, any money you have paid has not been allocated to your account (as you don't have one!) so you will get billed for all energy you have consumed.
I suggest you speak with your supplier immediately to establish the exact situation and then discuss the best resolution."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Prepayment customers should always ensure their meters tariff settings match the suppliers
There are no energy boards so you need to establish who your supplier is and if you have been using some one's card instead of your own you will have been crediting their account:eek:0 -
Hi Petite85 - There some anomolies in your post that make it difficult to see the wood for the trees.
To get Dual Fuel discount tariffs, both the gas & electric have to be supplied thro' a Credit meter, but from your post it appears you have a Key meter for gas and a Credit meter for Electric
Is this gas bill for £160 from the same company who supply your electric ?
Depending on things like your lifestyle and property, a £160 bill isn't overly expensive for the period it covers, but thats assuming you have not also been feeding a Key meter with cash.
Whoever the gas bill is from, write to them asking for a full statement listing the monies recieved via the Key meter against the cost of Gas used.0 -
hi thanks for the replys.
OK the person they sent was not from Npower or a perticular energy supplier i dont know the write term i have it on a card somewhere . When i moved in i phoned up straight away ( Npower) that i was the currant occuiper they said it would change over in 4 weeks. they where already the current supplier to the address i got letters saying welcome to n power .
no £160 is not much but i have been putting upto £55 a month on the meter.....
I do plan on writing to them just wanted a bit of advice before i do .
would i be better of on bills instead?
So i am with Npower for both. iv never been the bill payer at any pervious address either
