  • I think we have a duty to make sure the items are not being produced in some sweatshop in some poor part of the world, try your local Fair Trade shop who may be able to do a deal or offer nearly 'out of date' items or end of line stuff

Thanks for that we obviously think along similar lines. You can only put wrapped sweets in and stuff that is well within date so may not be suitable.

I did this last year i was the collection point for the village.

It is such a fantastic thing to do. I have my two boxes ready this year as i found it really hard to track down shoe boxes closer to the time.

My DD and DS do one each for a child of their age.

How did you start doing this if you don't mind? I can't see a drop off point in my area on their website and I would be really happy to do this? When the parcels were dropped off to you what did you do with them? I am wondering whether maybe I can get my son's school involved and perhaps my little neighbourhood? I am not religious but would be really interested in getting involved in the scheme.

If anyone could offer some advice it would be great!
  • I think you'l find that lots of churches and schools are involved with Shoe boxes, they are usually collected in November so if you ask around you probably find somewhere that will take your box.

It's worth mentioning that shoe boxes are getting more difficult to find as shoe shop don't store empty boxes, Health and Safety apparently, so start saving them now.

If you have a local market and frequent there it's worth going to ask - I found this out by getting wrapping paper off one stall and when I mentioned what it was for the stallholder duly shouted over to the shoe stall about boxes. Apparently a lot of people don't want the boxes so they are excess and the stallholders would rather give them away than have to cart them to the tip.
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D
  • We have all finished our christmas boxes early so we all got them out this evening to show off how well we all did lol :j I couldn't wait any longer lol

Theres some great bits and pieces in them, we've just finished wrapping the boxes in christmas paper and they're all ready to be despatched. :D

We all agreed that my middle daughter won the shoebox challenge this year.....sadly mum will have to wait until another year to win..but I will one day lol

I'm going to be dropping off our six boxes off tomorrow.

We do send ours through a local church but this is the website that is on the leaflets if you're interested in doing the same and finding your local drop off centre.

Good luck to you all you shoebox fillers :)

I went on google as like you would prefer a non-religious organisation, there were a few small organisations but you had to live near to be able to drop off, none near me though. Mostly they were religious organisations that were organizing these. Please post if you find any though thanks x

Did our boxes today. My sons decided to do boxes for teenagers.

For the boy they bought a die cast motorbike on a plinth - more model, than toy, and for the girl, some bonny coloured hair clips, bobbles and a tube with 12 tiny lip glosses in. Each are also getting a hat and gloves set, pens, pencils, a notebook, bar of soap, 2 flannels, a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste.
Here I go again on my own....
  • We had a representative from the local Rotary club come into my son's school on Friday to give a presentation and ask if the children and parents would help in filling shoeboxes. It's the first time they have approaced the school and so I will be avidly reading all this thread to get as many ideas as possible to fill up the box we are going to be doing.

I've just filled in the online form to volunteer for the warehouse over winter. Here if anyone wants the link http://www.samaritanspurse.uk.com/occ/volunteerform.asp

Has anyone experience of helping out in the warehouse or become a representative?
