Or the OP could have done the transaction sooner rather than leave it til the last minute or have done a CHAPS transfer although that would have cost £25 but at least would have gone same day. So really the usless sod is the OP and not the bank!

    rollocks.

it should not take 4 days. Th bank is to blame 110%. However, don't blame the staff they only follow orders.

  • Absolute rot vaporate. If the OP had gone xmas shopping on xmas eve to buy the missus some perfum at 4.55pm and found that Boots had sold out would that be the fault of Boots for running out and so the missus does not get her Armani Diamonds perfume??

    Extremely poor example.

It shouldn't take 4 days for a simple money transfer in this day of age, simple.

Although a tad off the OPs subject, it is my understanding that under the Payment Services Regulations 2009, until Jan 2012, banks could take up to 3 days to transfer funds if that "agreement" was in the Terms and Conditions. From Jan 2012 transfers must be completed by next business day.

I think you will find it is a good example of leaving things to the last minute. The OP left things to the last minute. The lesson for the OP is do not leave things to the last minute.

Whether it should or shouldn't isn't really the point.

The bank didn't offer a FP service. They didn't claim to offer such a service.

The OP simply assumed something should happen instantly without giving it a thought.

In those circumstances I can't see that Santander are at fault.

My only experience is with Natwest and they have been brilliant regarding fast payments, not just between natwest accounts but from other banks.

OP I would change banks. Santan'odear' appear to have a bad reputation anyway.

I wouldn't yet rely on FP for any transaction. More than once I have had transactions go by BACS without warning when I've expected them to go by FP.
  • So boys and girls the moral of this story is plan ahead, do not assume and do not leave urgent things to the last minute.
