There are some lovely places to visit, and also to eat out.

We go regularly (I teach French, and live in Kent so take maximum advantage:D).

If you want to go down the coast, then the road nearer the sea is very pretty. Boulogne is good for eating out, and for Nausicaa, the amazing sea life centre. It isn't great for shopping in my opinion. There is a great cheese shop, Philippe Olivier though, and the old town is very attractive. There is a large Auchan on the retail estate on the St Omer road.

We quite often go to St Omer, which has a good market on Saturday (huge, actually, not just food). It's a very attractive town, and has a very good shopping street. I can recommend Le Cygne, although it was inexplicably closed the last time we went,. I've also had a lovely meal at Le Petit Montmartre, and the restaurant on the corner of the main square looks promising. There is a very large Auchan at Longuenesse, about ten minutes drive away (google for its postcode for the satnav, or a map), and the road back to the motorway is just outside the car park

What do we buy? Well, my disgusting elder son buys tobacco and cigarettes, DD goes for clothes from Pimckie becuase they're fashionable, and no-one else at home has them. I go for wine, books and magazines, and the orange sponge biscuits called Chamonix, OH likes Lipton's Yellow Label Tea bags (export only) and chocolate. DS2 brings back the Auchan version of Nutella.

    Have a great day!

eta You don't say which day - most shops are closed Sunday, and an awful lot are also closed on Mondays too.

Is olive oil more reasonable in France than here now, it seems ok here to me?

There was an article in one of the papers this week that said one branch of Asda in Kent has seen their business quadruple due to French shoppers coming here to buy beer and wine due to pricing.

Seems to suggest it's hardly worth the effort any more.

If you google the hypermarkets you can go on their websites and see what offers they have on and the prices they charge. You can also check their opening times. As another poster stated www.daytripper.net is a great site and will give you the links to all the hypermarket websites. Have a great day out - wish I was coming with you lol

Don't forget to visit Cite Europe, not far from the tunnel terminal (if that's what you can call it) and the docks, I liked it there and there was a huge carrefour supermarket :)
