BMW Service history

Hi,
I was looking at 04 BMW 320D for sale yesterday, it is with an independent local dealer and was in great condition, at a good price, full MOT, just serviced and six months warranty (90,000 miles). Although there was no record of service history.
I carried out a car check through autotrader which came back with a mileage discrepancy (100,000 miles at the start of 06), I informed the dealer and I genuinely believe they didn't know. Dealer had all previous MOT certs and carried out their own check with HPI which came back clear.
Basically what I want to know is if there is any way I can contact BMW who may have the mileage details from any services they may have carried out to see if the mileages meet up.

There are plenty of Beemers out there. If you're unsure or can't check then don't take the risk and walk away. The man without a signature.0

To answer your question yes you can call BMW UK (09062090001 premium rate) and they will give details of any service history including miles, dealer, date etc. Check the car for anything that might suggest the main dealer it was bought from as contacting them with the registration will probably work out cheaper than calling that number0

Or email them at customer.service@bmw.co.uk0

Thanks for the help, I ended up finding out which dealer the car came from, who was very happy to give me the history. Turns out it has a fairly good service history up to 2007 when it reached 170,000 miles!!! Lesson learnt don't even go near a car without a SH and even if it has one a quick phone call can check if it's accurate as it's very easy to fake a service manual.0

:T
Did you tell the dealer who's selling it now?
What did they say?0 -
I wonder how much the < 80k added to the trade in value. A friend had a similar experience when he was looking at an Audi A6, it was showing about 80k and had last been serviced 2 years previous by VW at 150k!
Goes to show how good these German cars are, I doubt something French could pass for 90k when it had really done 170k!0 -
Yes I informed the dealer who appeared quite shocked they are now trying to chase up the person they got it from, I think what worries them the most is that their own HPI check didn't pick up on this. I feel sorry for them as they have spent money on it for the MOT.
Seems the car was clocked sometime between May 07 and April 08 before the first MOT. There must be almost 250,000 miles on the car and you could never tell by the condition. Might look at one with high mileage and a good service record.0 -
E46 320d's are ten a penny. You'll find another one with real miles for the same money. Just keep on looking
e46zone.com is worth a look. Check their for sale section. There's normally a couple of 320's up for sale in there and the majority have been enthusiast owned. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
I wonder how often this happens with cars that don't have such central records of service history........ :eek:0
