Hi we booked here for a long weekend in summer, liked the idea it has plenty on site to keep kids occupied and location is good for day trips etc. Have been told to avoid it and searching through the web most reviews seem to say the same.
If anyone has been or knows of it could you please comment on what you thought of it?
Thanks

Was there once and never again. Boring, expensive, unfriendly, loud, drunks and there was a girl raped on site the week we happened to be there. Better just to book a caravan on another site and plan things to do on the Antrim CoastWell I Love Tv And I Love T. Rex, I Can See Through Your Skirt I've Got X-Ray Spex0

Oh dear thats terrible:eek: Was it quite recent you went?
Not sure what to do now,we have looked at other sites but were hiring so that rules a few out and I liked the way it had a pool and bar etc (were taking four kids ranging from 2-15) so having plenty onsite is a must.
Past few years we have took kids to haven an pontins at blackpool, southport and scotland, the kids loved all the onsite facalities and it kept us sane lol.
Ashamed to say this will be out first local holiday!!0 -
My hubby and I have been to Silvercliffs several times via the Sun £9.50 holidays and we both loved it.
We always got an apartment but this may have been since it was off season when we stayed (March or April and again in Sept or Oct)
I have family who live in that area and they have said to avoid the onsite pub but considering the amount of good bars in Ballycastle that is not a problem at all.
There is a notice in reception that no football tops are allowed, so that coupled with the onsite pub may prove to be a catalyst and explain the poor reviews that you are seeing?
I also have never eaten in the onsite cafe as there are plenty of good places to eat in town and the apartment is self-catering.
All chippys in town are good and there is a bakery on the main street that has a cafe upstairs that serves real dinners (spuds veg, pie) perfect when you just want a toastie and he wants his dinner!!!!
For the kids there is an indoor swimming pool with slides and a play park. But Ballycastle does have a lovely beach so it would be a pity to spent all the time in the indoor pool.
Just outside of Ballycastle is Loughaveema the vanishing lake, one day its there the next its not. Baffle the kids!
The lake is located at Lough Bridge on the main Cushendall to Ballycastle road.
Hope you enjoy your time at Silvercliffs.0 -
Rachel....thanks for your reply, its kinda reassured me.Im geting the feelin that at one point its got a bad name and its stuck so thats why I was wanting to hear from those that had visited recently.
I totally get the football top thing and thats just typical of northern ireland.
The vanishing lake sounds great,il add that to our list! Going to visit rathlin island so another reason why ballycastle appeals to us and have been told about the central wine bars lovely food so cant wait to go there.
Not going until july so plenty of time to hear the good and bad!0 -
I never found the Silvercliffs indoor swimming pool to be very clean, but Ballycastle itself is a good spot, no doubt about it. Wysners butchers had a cafe if I remember correctly and it was decent too.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Artofdookie is this the rape that occurred in 2002 that you are referring to?
(Don't mean this to sound so strong, it is just a question)
I can't recommend the pool or comment on its cleanliness as I have never used it
Haven't been on rathlin in ages, do you have to book the tickets for the boat in advance now?0 -
Yes they say booking essentiall http://www.rathlinballycastleferry.com/tr/index.php0

We went here when DD was about 2 on a sun 9.50 hoiliday. We got an apartment. It was stinking, dirty, smelt and we came home early.
Would never go back. It was worst than craig tara and that really is saying something!0 -

We upgraded to gold at craig tara (07) and loved it,didnt find it dirty at all.Pontins in southport though really disgusted me,i was convinced we had been given the wrong apartment:rotfl: so dingy and the whole complex just reeked of chaviness!!0 -
Just a little update...we decided to drive down and have a look about the site and have to say it was clean, staff polite and helpful, quite busy as its bank holiday weekend.
I sneakily didnt let on we had booked and instead asked if we could see an apartment and caravan as we wernt sure which would be the roomiest, this wasnt a problem and they were both clean and tidy.Overal it had a good feel to it and I think we will just go ahead with the booking despite the neg comments I have been told.0
