Trip to Myanmar (Burma)

I would like to take a trip to Myanmar (Burma as was). I know all the political problems and the arguments for not going there, but that aside can anyone recommend a reputable company to travel there with. Within reason cost is not a factor, although I want value for money. My father was there during the war and as part of his memory I would like to see some of the places he told me about when I was a child. Any help would be appreciated.

Start from Bangkok and spend a week or so getting a visa while finding an agent who could bring you there, if you so wish. Many tours to Burma would naturally start there. See http://www.diethelmtravel.com/ for example. It's a very reputable company and could be pricey. Shop around.

Despite a few comments to avoid Bangkok, you should definitely spend some time in the capital as well as other parts of the country once you're in the Far East. It's a city of contrasts and holds a high merit in its own right. Travel+Leisure has it ranked third behind Florence and Rome, and first in Asia for already many years.
