Car written off by garage whilst being repaired

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help. Someone pranged my dads car causing bodywork damage. Insurance details were swapped and the car was arranged to be fixed.

However, whilst in the garage, the garage call and say that the starter motor was broken. Then a few days later, they say that the engine has blown completely. Writing off the car basically. Its a year 2000 Audi A6.

The car was going in for bodywork repair. What on earth could have happened that caused the engine to blow? Something isnt right. Not right at all. IT was a very reliable car that was serviced regularly.

The insurance company (Saga i think) are basically washing their hands of the incident. They said that they will 'investigate', but they've implied that they are not liable. So basically with got a shiny car withfixed bodywork with a blown engine.

What are my dads rights in this situation? He cant afford to buy a new car from scratch.

Thanks
