Sounds good but am I only one thinking its a bit iffy shelling up £175 up front? Surely theres going to be tons of people applying so how many £175s do they get to keep (and they do cash the cheque)?

OK, fair enough if you get work then its all cool. If its true you get to see the festival on your days off that is.

But what about if you dont get in, they keep your £175 until 2010 is up and then you chase them for the money? Hmmm.....

Anyone got any experience of this?

I can't speak from personal experience of this company, but they are SIA registered and seem to do some major events.
I'd say the deposit is just that, to stop people signing up to work for them at the big festivals, then once they get in, deciding they'd not bother working and not bother about earning the wage, but would rather watch the bands instead.

It seems to be nothing more than a returnable bond, which I think is a good idea.

I can the logic behind that but if you notice you send them a cheque and they cash it straight away. Why?

So you could register, find they've got no work for you and then have to wait to get the dosh back. Potentially until the end of 2010 since they've got events in December.

Might be above board but it seems a nice little cashflow helper for them.

  • www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/jobs/ I'd look here before paying to try and find work....before you even get paid! hehehe
  • It's the same for working the Glastonbury festival in any capacity, generally you have to pay for your ticket and as long as you work the required hours they give you the money back afterwards.

This is to stop people signing up to work and then disappearing into the crowds - since there's no chance of finding anyone in the 150,000+ people who go!

After visiting the festival quite a few times and enjoying it, I'd much rather go as a festival goer than a worker. For people who aren't to bothered about it, working is a good way to experience the festival for a low cost.

I've always found the security teams to be a mixed bunch of people. Some of them are really easy going and have a laugh with the festival gowers, encourage them during the "slog" to the site from the car parks carrying all of their weekends equipment and supplies. Others are very sour faced and serious about what they are doing and think they are guarding the crown jewels!
  • Yeh. Know what you mean. I work as a steward in the millenium and some of the other stewards like to use their bit of power to make themselves look important.
