Renting websites

Can anyone recommend a good website for renting property (looking to rent in southern/middle england)?

Are there any good ones that are not really known about, or is rightmove the best?

Gumtree is good. But seriously - never ever transfer money to anyone using Western Union. Even if the transfer is to your own name.

Otherwise, I find it good! There is good property on there, and a reasonable quantity of scammers. But after one or two of the fake ones you will identify them early enough in the process.

How do you spot the fake ones? Apart from the £200pm london detached.

Seems to be a lot of student houses on gumtree, are students the only ones who want to rent private?

I think it's quite easy to spot the fake ads, when something seems too good to be true, then it's probably not true.

I always use gumtree and nestoria to search for flat to rent privately to avoid using agents. Particularly nestoria is a good site as it shows you exactly where the property is located on a map.

However if you are searching for something in London, then don't bother with gumtree as most of the ads are posted by agents.

Go via the local LL association for contact info for LLs who self manage their properties and/or ask the local Council if they hold a list of accredited private sector LLs.
