I need an INSTANT hedge about 10 foot high - any ideas
As the title says, I need something 10 foot high to fill a gap in my hedge. I'd want something at least 9 if not 10 foot high already, and that can be used to fill a 6 foot wide gap.
I wouldn't mind if it was something that's in pots and could later be moved as the gap is due to somebody damaging my hedge and it will grow back in 2/3 years, but I want to fill the gap as soon as possible.
Any suggestions? Any ideas of prices involved?

Why not ask on freecycle if anyone's removing a large plant that you could use?Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0

Our local store The Range sell the plastic tablecloth on a roll. One of the designs is a summer flowering backdrop ..........:j0

I hope you've got a deep pocket cos a plant that big is going to be in 3 figures with no guarantee it'll take when out of the pot. Generally the bigger the plant the less likely it'll settle.
I'd suggest a temporary fence panel or two.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
A reasonable sized (not a plug) Buddleia will probably reach 8' or so in a few months. I'd put 2 or 3 in. You could put something thorny at the bottom along the gap too if it's security you;re worried about.0

I just paid £140 each for 2 mature trees, about 20 foot tall, the nursery had mature hedging plants as well priced £80-£400 depending on the age of the plant.0

Here's a quirky solution that I'm trying this year:
There is a kind of Kale vegetable that reaches up to 10 feet in two years. It's called the Walking Stick kale. It has a very sturdy trunk (they are turned into walking sticks by people who grow them), lots of dense growth and what's more you harvest the cabbage leaves to eat throughout the winter. Leave them to flower in January and they'll grow even bigger in their second year. They look magnificent alone or in groups:

By the time you've cut the trunks (and made them into walking sticks) your permanent hedging plants will have put some growth on.
Buy the seeds for about £2 - they germinate in about a month - then plant about a foot apart.
What more could you ask for - a screen that you can eat and manufacture into an unusual talking point (great for children!) while you're waiting for your hedge to establish?

Who damaged your hedge? Perhaps they should help with costs?0

Why not buy a leylandii at 9 or 10 foot tall then cut out the main shoot so it doesnt grow any higher. I know I will probaly get slated for mentioning leylandii:eek: but they are the perfect hedge IF they are kept trimmed , you would probaly pay £17,00 per tree, thats not a bad price for a instant gap filler..plus the birds love them for nesting in..:)0
