Road Resurfacing outside my house
Options
Hi all
Not sure where to put this but seeing as it's sort of to do with a road I'll put it here. My local council say they are carrying out the following works in my cul de sac: Plane off and resurface Carriageway and Kerbing and Footway works
Now, our kerbs date back to the 2nd world war and I am concerned that the council won't have a record of our dropped kerb. What is the likelihood I come back home one day next week and I have a high kerb outside my drive?
I've tried ringing the number on the council website but it goes through to their call centre and they didn't know what to do or who I could ask about this. Talk about useless!

Why not just take a photo of it, so you can prove it existed?0

Not a bad idea that one! Photograph it, or go out and have a word while they do it.
I suspect it'll be "like for like" replacement though? Would make sense.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I agree a photo time and date stamped would be a good idea, also if google street view is in your area that would be good too.

I doubt you'll have any problems with the kerb, I suspect they'll just replace like for like unless they've had requests for kerbs to be dropped, as that's the easiest way for them to avoid making mistakes.0

When the council resurfaced the road outside our house they couldnt have been nicer and they provided temporary ramps at the end of the day to get our cars into our drives/garages and protected parking within the hours that they were working (which normally meant temporary ramps when we said we would need to park up)
They took photos before starting the job and actually gave a neighbour a dropped curb that they didnt have before.0 -
Have you tried your local Highways dept, that's who we have to ring concerning roads.

Why would they change it, rather than replace like for like0

As others have said take a photo if you are that concerned - but if you're honest do you really think there is much chance that the council will replace all the dropped kerbs in your cul-de-sac with normal ones? Then presumably argue that the dropped kerbs were never there in the first place and require you to prove otherwise? Honestly?
You're worrying about nothing surely...

I am worried because my kerb is so old if you just glanced at it it doesn't appear to be dropped, it's only when you look for the slanted stones at either side that you can see it is.... that's why I am worried someone will take a quick look and make a mistakeKavanne

Update: They appear to have completed a survey of the road and my drive has a white line, arrow and the word 'XING' painted on it so I am guessing this means they have managed to tell it's dropped! yayKavanne
