Ikea non delivery

Can I please have your opinion on the following...cos I think the world has gone mad

My daughter ordered a dressing table online from Ikea and received a delivery date (today) She was going to be here to received it but had to go out, which she absolutely had no choice but to do and I was at work 30 miles away. She left a note on the front door to say leave the article next door. The delivery men then phoned my daughters mobile...the one on the order sheet...to say they would be an hour...my daughter explained the situation and asked them to leave it next door and they said they would.
When they arrived my neighbour was waiting for them and they dropped it off with her as per instructions...so far so good.
They then rang my daughter back and asked for our neighbours name...but she could only remember her first name..Pat.....
The delivery drivers rang their office only to be told that because they didn't have a surname from my daughter they were to take it back off my neighbour and put it back on the van

the next delivery date is 12 May and they can't give me a time slot!

If they dropped it off with a neighbour, did she not sign for it.
Were they so thick that they didnt even ask for the name.

When they went to pick it up, why didnt they
a. ask her to sign for it
b. ask for her name.

Bit confusing really

my neighbour gave her name to them...and told them she would sign....but because my daughter couldn't remember Pats surname it had to go back

I very much doubt that it would have had to go back. If the neighbour had refused to hand it over, what could the delivery people have done. They were hardly likely to break in and take it.

well it certainly went back....they stayed with it in her porch til they decided she couldn't have it!
