I've never heard of this, but after reading other posts, I can't see the harm in it. On the plus side, it reminds them of you if they are seeing a lot of candidates, and what is the worst that could happen? You'll never deal with them again if you get the job, unless it was internal. I wouldn't do it if it is internal though, then I think it would seem weird!Everyone I know wants to be a millionaire.
Not me, I want to be a billionaire.0 -
I have never heard of this either. I have conducted many interviews (spent all of today doing it actually!) and have never received one, neither have I ever sent one after an interview I've had.
I find it a bit wierd!!

No, no, no, a thousand times NO.
Weird, crawling, ingratiating, the list goes on.
Do it and you probably wont get the jobmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I think it depends on the role and level. The more senior a position it is, the more appropriate it is to make post-interview contact.0

It's a solicitor role at a junior level. I was at my last firm for 5 years, first as a paralegal, trainee solicitor and then for a short time after qualification. I have been out of the job hunting market for a while hence being surprised to see that most if not candidates e mailing my old boss.
Also, every legal recriuter website says to send one but I'm with most people on this thread, I find it uncomfortable.
Anyway, it's probably a bit late now as the interview was Wednesday and I am supposed to hear back on Tuesday.0 -
Like the majority of posters I too think it is an odd thing to do and have never seen or heard it advised.0

How odd - I almost always get an email or letter following an interview... and I've been recruiting for nearly 30 years! It is more common in senior level jobs but even so, when I interviewed 6 candidates for an admin position two years ago, four out of the six emailed to thank me and say they were still interested in the role.
For a more senior post, one candidate who did not get our job emailed to tell me that she understood why she wasn't successful. I was then talking to a contact who was on the lookout for a marketing assistant and I thought this candidate would be perfect - and I'm sure her communications helped to stick her in my mind. She did get the job.
I wouldn't think less of a candidate who didnt't, but I have sometimes reconsidered a candidate I'd rejected on the strength of a good letter.0 -
Thanks Cazziebo, that's helpful. It probably is too late for this job now but perhaps if I don't get it, I'll send a note thanking them for the opportunity and asking them to bear me in mind for any future roles!0
