Post interview thank you notes

I just wanted to get an opinion on what people think about writing a thank you e mail after an interview.

I had an interview today which went ok. The interviewer was friendly but hard to read. Every job hunting site I've read says you must send a thank you note but it's something I personally find pushy and awkward.

Is there any harm in not sending one? It is between me and two others, one they saw yesterday and one they are seeing tomorrow. The agent was generally unhelpful on the subject and said it is up to me but might show that I am keen.

I think it's weird and pushy to send a thank you note, but it's up to you:D:D

I have been on a great many interview/recruitment panels and I have never received a thank you note, nor would i expect to receive one. What would you be thanking the interview panel for? I can understand the other way round - with the interview panel writing to thank the interviewees for giving up their time to attend and prepare for the interview.

I personally would not send one. I think its enough to say your 'thank yous' at the end of the interview.' Its a nice thought but if I received one I would think the candidate was being a bit pushy.

I would. For every job interview I've sent a "thank you for seeing me and I'm still very interested" letter afterwards has resulted in me being offered the job.

It shows that you are still keen - interviewing is a 2 way process after all. Also with the sheer number of people after each vacancy anything that differentiates you (in a good way) from the rest has got to be an advantage

Thanks for the replies although I still haven't made up my mind. At my last job I used to get my supervising partner's e mails and I noticed that when we were recruiting, all the people he had interviewed had followed up with a thank you e mail. I do agree it is pushy and weird but also don't want to be the only one that doesn't send a note!

EDSKS - I would be thanking them for their time and asking to meet me. The person that interviewed me charges his time out at £380 per hour so in this case, his time was more valuable than the time I gave up for the interview!

why not think of a question that didnt get asked in the interview that you could ask- an incorporate that with your thank you note

    ie

    Dear Joe Bloggs

I would like to thank you for blah blah blah.

I am very interested in the position, however, one question that I didnt ask...*insert question*

That way, you get to send your thank you note without looking like a stalker!

    No,no,no....
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
