Help with Argos refund

I purchased a babyliss beard trimmer from argos last july, it has just stopped working.
I want to take it back but I dont have the box, packaging or receipt.

The only thing I have as proof of purchase is a bank statement, would I be able to get argos to replace it?

Don't necessarily need a receipt, just "proof of purchase". Providing you bank statement shows all the necessary details then this should suffice.

The statement just shows the price and where I got it (Argos) .

    That should be enough.

I bought a microwave from lidl, that developed a fault a few months after I bought it. All I had for proof of purchace was a bank statement, just said lidl and the amount. That was enough for them to replace it. As mentioned above, take your statement in and ask at customer services, it should be as good as a receipt. Good luck :)
I get paid to smell great :j

I went to argos and noticed the trimmer had a 3 year manufacturers guarantee. I managed to get it exchanged but had to pay £11 extra because they dont stock it anymore, and they only stock the updated model.

Are they right in doing this? Or should I have been given a straight swap due to the guarantee?

They are right as they only have to offer repair/replacement or refund. As they couldn't replace they have effectively refunded you and you have paid the extra. You could have refused and made them either refund or repair

Thanks for the answer. Can you tell me what a manufacturers guarantee is please?

I am in a very similar position to the OP. I purchased a Pink TV/DVD Combo for my 8 yr old daughter for Christmas. It has now stopped working. Power is ok but no picture or sound. I've changed the remote batteries, tried it in a diff aerial socket but still nothing.

I have no packaging or receipt and paid for it in cash. I'd be happy for Argos to repair it or exchange but what are my chances..?? Anyone any ideas or legal advice.

    Many thanks

    Andy.

    What are your chances?

Pretty slim if you can offer no proof of purchase.

    What make is it?

If it is not a brand sold exclusively by Argos, I am sure you can understand that they may not want to repair, refund or replace a tv supplied by someone else.

Even if it is an Argos Exclusive brand, you cannot show that you paid Argos for it. Sorry to say it but people have been known to 'find' these things. ;)

BTW... welcome to the forums.

Have you replaced the fuse in the plug?

Hi and thanks for your thoughts, which I'm (sadly) inclined to agree with. It's an Acoustic Solutions model which had (and still has) really good reviews. I haven't changed the fuse as the power button lights up - just nothing else, either by the remote or set-top buttons.

I still intend to 'discuss' it with them upon their next opening but ultimately I guess I'll just have to grit my teeth, replace it at my own expense and chalk it up to lessons learned..!!
