i am with n power and i had this meter fitted about 3 weeks ago and the gas man put 12 credit in there which i have to pay it off roughly £1.90 each time i put credit in there, but this time i had a balance of £11.36 i put in £5 today it took £1.71 for the £12 credit and then a further 20p for charges and another 30p for other charges but when it was finished taking the money i owed i looked at how much money i had left and it said £3! where did the rest of the £11 go?! should i call n power about it, and will they sort this out or fob me off.

  • Getting in touch with them is obviously your first action and see where you get - no point worrying about them fobbing you off before you've even asked them, they may deal with your concern straight away.

Look at the thread about no debt being assigned to the prepayment meter - no debt was assigned to that one so make sure that is all in order (assuming there is a debt, if not disregard this bit!) :D

If you haven't topped up for a while, you may have daily standing charges to pay on top of your recovery rate (if you owed money when you had it put in) on top of the money paying back the emergency credit. Either way, phone them.

As said you need to bear in mind the meter will:
    1) Take back a percentage of the £12 they 'lent' you every time you vend.
    2) There may be a standing charge on the tariff but this should be taken every day regardless of you vending.
    3) If the meter was fitted because you were in debt it will take your 'debt recovery rate' on whatever basis was agreed (some much per week or % of everything you put on the meter.
    4) If you run out of credit you will go into 'emergency credit' and it will take all of this back the next time you vend.
All of this information will be available via the display on the meter but for some settings you need the card in the meter to be able to see it.

i resolved the problem, i called npower and they said the £12 was the emergency so it basically took payment for that and then i topped it up with another £5 and it's ok now, balance is £8.
