Duel Fuel
Does this work out better?
Im moving into my first home as a homeowner next week and want to do some research on utility bills etc.
I have no idea how it works:(
Any help would be so much appreciated.
Im looking for a plan where there are no estimates, whatever it says on the meter I pay!

Most of the time dual fuel is cheaper as there is a sizeable discount for dual fuel. However on occasion, depending on your consumption(which you won't know of course) separate companies can work out cheaper.
All companies tend to use estimates at some time or the other(for instance the meter reader cannot gain access) unless you submit regular meter readings on time - and even then these can be ignored!
By paying for what is on the meter, you will be paying quarterly with most companies, although some have monthly bills. However this means you will not get a sizeable discount for paying by Direct Debit and will have large bills in winter.
Without doubt the cheapest tariffs are internet based and paying by Direct Debit. If you keep track of your account it isn't a problem.0 -

As I won't know my consumption, do any of these companies let you 'bed' in so you pay for what you use when you first move in, then work out what best suits my consumption? Im happy to submit meater readings every month, id prefer to pay via direct debit monthly and im happy to do internet tarriffs and paperless billing if it works out as im always on the net type of person.
I see that there are alot of comparison offers or switch, do these apply to new customers seeing as I won't be switching but starting a new?0 -
Your consumption depends what property you are buying - 1 bed flat or 6 bed mansion - and a load of other factors.
You will be switching as initially you will have no choice but to use the supplier that is presently supplying the property, and any switch will take several weeks.
At this time of the year, without much heating, there really is no urgency.0 -
If you want monthly bills, try OVO or British Gas EnergySmart0

Particularly as you are considering changing supplier, you should make it your first task when you actually move in to read all of the meters and keep a permanent note of these opening readings.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
