Hi

Does anyone know have/ know anything about these bikes? My Specialized Rockhopper was stolen last week and the insurers are offering a Boardman Comp as a replacement. Am slightly put off by the fact that they are only supplied by Halfords, but all advice welcome.

Thanks

Halfords can supply any brand of bike, including Specialized, Bianchi and Cannondale (they don't sell them in their shops but supply them to ins co.'s and on the Cycle to Work Scheme), so don't let that put you off. I've heard good things about the Boardman bikes and believe they come very highly recommended. Get onto www.BikeRadar.com and see what they say there - you'll get a much better informed opinion than mine.

They seem to attract good reviews but let down very badly by teh halfords staff setting the bikes up. Personally I would want like for like replacement, which is what Axa did when some scroat had my stumpjumper away.

Yes, I was a bit surprised that they didn't just offer a new Specialized. Apparently I can refuse what they have offered, so am just trying to work out whether I should. I think a trip to Halfords is sadly in order

The Insurance co. are probably getting a large discount on the boardman bikes. Who actually make the bikes that carry his name?

I've a Boardman HT Pro and it is fantastic, I use it for off road and racing only.

The bikes have topped many reviews over the last couple of years and are considered to be excellent by most of the cycling press.

All the components are generally one or two steps up the quality ladder than rivals at the same price point and the frames are made by a third party in the Far East by a producer who makes frames for at least two other large specialist bike companies.

The downsides are that they are sold through Halfords only who have a patchy reputation for service but if you ignore that fact and go to a local bike shop for general care you'll be more than happy with it.
