Is he correct? (tax credits)

i have just got off the phone to tax credits. Last year i recieved £121 a week based on a estimate of £12400 our earnings were actually £9373 so I was hoping for a bit of a lump sum for an underpayment.
chap on the phone says we are getting £148 this year and there is no underpayment . We get £16 a week taken off us this year for an overpayment in a previous year so it cant be that they have taken it to clear that debt.
He was adamant that we were not owed any more even though we earnt £3000 less and said "well your getting it this year"
Its impossible to let them know any sooner as Oh is self employed and work is erratic

try this website http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/payments-entitlement/entitlement/question-how-much.htm you can put in for 2009/2010 claim and work out from that what you should have got then caculate what you did get and see if there is a difference. my estimated was 12.870 i actually earned 11.585 gave them my figure waiting for a reply but mine caculated i should have got £2700 more still waiting to hear though but based on the estimated i should have got £2300 more than i did really dont get it. i had a overpayment of £318 last year

Yes with my circumstances and reading on here i worked out they should owe me about another £1000 for last year and it may be paid as a lump sum or used to clear my debt with them. He said there was no underpayment showing and no extra payment set to go in. I will wait untill i get my award notice and look into it further.
They would have got my form friday so quickly sorted but no letters yet.

I find dealing with Tax Credits very difficult.

They are so quick to demand a repayment yet when you feel they OWE you money it is an entirely different story.

My advise would be to go to your local Tax Office - that's what I did when they sent me a final statement and demanded I repay £350!

Despite me telling them that I wasn't working (I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in my lungs - 2008) they still used my income and continued to pay me.

Then they said you are only allowed to change your employment details twice in a year! What a load of mince! So for 2009/2010 I over estimated our income as I now receive ESA and this is taxable so counts towards income. So I think they owe me £500!

Have just rang again and found out that our debt has reduced from £2200 to £681 so the lady said it doesnt show on the system but it has been used to reduce our debt! We paid back about £500 last year so about a thousand has gone off the debt extra.
    Bingo!
    Thank you to all replies

Are you sure of these figures?? They seem like crazy amounts to me for what in essence is around a £1,285 difference.

I would have thought a couple of hundred, not a couple of £k
