just as an update, let me tell you what happened to some friends of mine. they were booked on a monarch flight ZB661 Malaga - Man on the 20/04 - the last day there were major cancellations due to volcanic ash (air space opened that night), so i sorted them out with a night at the hotel they were staying at. THe following morning at 08:30 i called the Monarch call center and managed to get them booked onto the new ZB9661 flight (notice the 9 in front of the original flight number!) for that same afternoon. basically, the same flight they were originally on just 1 day later. I let them know, they are happy i have managed to get this sorted for them, and proceed to the airport later that day in order for check-in.

when they get there they, and about 150 others who are also booked onto the ZB9661 flight are told the flight is full. Frantic phone calls & checking around, Monarch CS total pile of (insert naughty word), so nothing my friends could do, and nothing i could do from here. Most people at the airport went home, but my friends and a few others stayed there and protested, and most were then eventually put onto flights to Gatwick & Luton, and then left to their own devices.

I have processed their claim through Monarch and got some re-imbursement, however i have also wrote to them 3 times asking why my friends were not allowed onto a flight that they had re-booked for, and requesting conversation. After recieving nothing from the airline, i have put the claim through to the AUC for either cancelled flight or denied boarding compensation, and they have accepted the claim to look at. From what i can see, Monarch are responsible for one of the claims (either they cancelled the booking within 7 days, therefore compensation is due, or they denied my friends boarding when they had a confirmed reservation, therefore compensation due).

I will update when i hear back.
