Cake Transportation

H2B and I live in Manchester.... we're getting married just south of Birmingham.... We've seen a gorgeous cake, at a cant be beaten price, in a bakery in Manchester.....

See where im going with this??

Its a three tier cake. How hard would it be to collect it ourselves, drive it to Brum and put it together ourselves?

Is it a mental idea?
I know I'll be terrified on the whole car journey down but cake makers can do it and they just put them in boxes dont they?

Just have them in three separate boxes and put them in the boot with nothing else.

Pickle ask the bakers if they will deliver to Bham, if not ask them how you can transport the cake and if they can let you have some boxes.

I think she will deliver but she charges 50p a mile over a 15 mile radius from her shop! Bit expensive me thinks!

Can you have 3 seperate boxes for a 3 tier cake thats got beading and flowers round it etc?

The more i think about it, the more i think its a bad idea!

You could have 3 separate boxes but cakes move about and you don't want a wrecked cake. We have bakers here in Brum too you know.

Where in Brum are you getting married? If you let me know I can come up with a list of bakers for you.

It will be fine if you put the boxes singly in the boot, using a duvet underneath, which can then be snuggled around each of the boxes to stop them sliding about during the journey, are you having pillars or are the cakes sitting on each other directly when arranged? If it's the latter it will be very easy to sort it out yourself, if the former. ask the baker for any tips! One last thing, get yourselves some big bags the cakes will fit into individually, Ikea blue bags would be good, then use them to transport the cakes to and from the car, we all know that carrying things like cakes in boxes can magically make the tiniest bump, dip or step into the biggest trip hazard in the world, so if they are in a bag like the afor mentioned and you are holding it by the long handles, it will have a much shorter journey to the ground(especially if you are a oompa loompa like me)

Thanks Mrs Hugget, there's some good tips there!

Anyway, I've emailed the cake lady (not sure what else to call her lol) so will see what she says!

I hate to say this, but as a cake decorating student, I really don't think you'd be able to take the cake apart and put it back together yourself. You see the piping round each layer of the cake, well that is put on after the layers are put together.

    It's this one yeah?
