Is Upgrading RAM worth it, or buy new laptop?

Wouldn't ever buy used RAM on eBay or anywhere else, RAM can be damaged simply by touching it if you have any static charge, you don't know who's handled it and if they know what they are doing or not. Also if it's been removed and stored it should be stored in an antistatic bag. You won't know if it's damaged straight away either, it will be a while down the line when it just fails or begins to perform exceptionally bad and there will be no comeback.

From what OP has said about the spec, I'd be a safe bet to say that the processor in this machine is also low spec, no point upgrading RAM and HD and expecting Office and Photoshop to run well with a old slow processor.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've bought a lot of used memory on eBay, and it's always been fine. As long as you run Memtest overnight on the target machine as soon as you get it you shouldn't have a problem. eBay and PayPal are so heavily biased in favour of the buyer these days that it's not a great risk for very substantial money saving.

Agree 100%, bought quite a bit of memory on ebay for the old stuff I sort out.
Never had any fail yet, I've always bought from 99.5% + sellers and had fantastic service.
    Move along, nothing to see.
