Travel Insurance - Tunisia

Options
Hi

I'm going to Tunisia in June for 2 weeks and would like some advice on travel insurance, normally i just do a search on the internet and go with a mid range one but thats Spain.

I have been advised that you need special insurance, can anyone comment on the type of insurance needed for Tunisia.

Going with a 3 year old so don't want to take any chances.

Cheers

Check that Tunisia is part of Europe (not sure if it is). Otherwise it may need to be a worldwide policy.

Tunisia is north Africa but comes under the banner of europe for insurance purposes so whichever one you're happy to go to Spain with will cover Tunisia too.

    I've been a couple of times, it's a great place! :)

BUBA - Don't just pick a "mid-range" you need to make sure that it is adequate coverage and that you are covered for certain incidents (volcanic ash delay for example) that you want cover for.

    See my regular bit ..............

Don’t forget to buy DECENT insurance.

    1. Do not buy from a Travel Agent.
    2. Do not buy from foreign insurer (Incl. White Horse)
    3. Do not buy on price alone - make sure you have adequate coverage.
    4. Compare prices on EQUAL policies only.
    5. If the price (premiums) do sound cheap - then probably so is the cover!
    6. See who UNDERWRITES the policy - I advise you do not buy any Axa policy.
    7. If you want it - make sure your policy covers Volcano, Cancellation (Charter AND scheduled airline), Delay, and costs (Hotel, food, alternate travel arrangements).

Finally my recommendation for a great insurer…….

Fortis Insurance. (Post Office is the easiest way to purchase)

    Why?........

They are excellent at after claims service and pay your claims quicker than most other insurers. (based on my own experiences as someone who bills 20,000+ claims a year)
They were THE FIRST UK insurer to announce they would be covering the volcanic ash claims. (and the few others followed!)
They are a little more expensive than most – but you REALLY DO get what you pay for. (Why skimp on insurance when the cheaper won’t pay out anyway?) £20-30 extra is a little price to pay for peace of mind and worry free travel when you have spent £6,000+ on a family holiday!

I'm beginning to think FHBrit has shares in Fortis. Chris, if everyone followed your recommendation (and why wouldn't they?) policy claimants would encounter no problems and you would be out of a job!!!

It's a public service - and I get no thanks (joking here) - Perhaps Tippy you'd like to nominate me for a Knighthood?!

I don't own shares (Fortis if you're reading I'll accept any you'd like to give me!!!) And I NEVER said Fortis were perfect, they are the best available I have found and had dealings with - there's a difference! (there maybe others out there that I have not come accross yet)

Very True - I could be out of a job but as I am loaded because of all these travellers that go against OUR advice on here, I could do with a little retirement!

There are enough idiots around that STILL don't read T&C's, or buy on price alone, or hide PEMC's (you know the list an be long) and on them I make a fortune - thanks you bought my beach house!!!

Also then you get people that do insurance stuff right and then don't read hospital rules/laws here and guess what? I earn out of them too!

And (how people can live like this I don't know) there are some people who don't use MSE! ! !

Seriously, I do appreciate your efforts to guide people away from cowboy insurers! You should know how I feel about AXA and White Horse. What I would say, is that even if you read Ts&Cs, many policies are "open to interpretation", and of course, the insurers will interpret them in an entirely different way than the average Joe.

Beach house in Florida? Florida's where people go to die, isn't it?? If you said beach house in Laguna or Del Mar, I would be impressed!

Take care - keep up the good work.

Tippy - so right you are - not about Florida = where you go to die (That's St. Pete's - God's waiting room! - similar to Eastbourne!)

    Thanks for your kind words.
