Boiler Scrappage - Rant!

I sent my claim in for the £400 rebate with the completed voucher and all the paperwork on 26th March. Heard nothing but there is a 28 day turnover. Rang yesterday to ask on the progress of my claim only to be told the voucher had expired. I explained that I had sent it in well on time - the code only expired last Sunday - but she said they hadn't received it. I said I have photocopies of everything in case anything went wrong but she said this was no good - I should have sent it recorded delivery:mad: There was no mention of this is the guidance.
Has anyone else had problems? She told me to e-mail an appeal but in the next breath said it wouldn't do any good!!
What do I do now? I have sent in an appeal but am feeling absolutely gutted as I wouldn't have had the boiler now if I hadn't been getting the rebate of £400.

Thus far I haven't had a problem. I put my claim in and after a couple of weeks got an email to say they had received it. It said I have to wait upto 25 working days to get the cheque but they were well past their deadline for me getting the voucher.
  • :)Well I seem to have had a good result. I received a reply to my e-mail which was totally the opposite to the information from the call centre. They are quite happy to honour the claim and have extended the date of my voucher by 30 days. Fortunately I had photocopies of the paperwork as they are unable to issue a copy of the voucher. I rang them this morning to confirm a few points and they were so helpful - it has restored my faith and I can't praise them enough!
  • Boiler scrappage. Have just waited the 6 weeks they state on their web site before contacting them about my rebate only to be told they haven't received anything. Did I sent it registered mail, again something not requested anywhere, and the only thing I can do is appeal as, of course the voucher has now expired.Told not to bother e-mailing appeal as they get so many. Wasn't sure if she was refering to e-mails or appeals! I have today sent copies, special delivery, made at the time as I have already sent them the originals. They appear tohave built in their own Catch 22 into the whole process. Don't contact us about payment until your voucher has expired, then we won't bother paying you. Not such a headline grabbing headline for the News Papers as purporting to help the environment. Await will bated breath for their response, if anybody can be bothered signing for my letter.

It will just be a call centre / processing issue.

Write a polite but firm letter which contains your full story/history and you will get your money eventually

  • Just been paid my boiler scrappage rebate after sending copies of all forms by Royal Mail special delivery. Many thanks Energy Saving Trust.:j
  • Hi,

the boiler scrappage scheme is a con. The information on the energy savings trust website gives the impression that if your boiler is over 10years old and does not appear on the list of boilers that the energy savings trust suggests as being 'old boilers' in need of replacing then it is assumed that you will qualify for the voucher. My mother complied fully with all of the requirements only to be emailed today that she did not qualify because her boiler was a d rated boiler as opposed to a g rated boiler. The g rated boiler being the one that qualifies for the boiler scrappage scheme. If she had been aware of this at the point of original enquiry, she would have saved her money until her boiler completely expired and actually needed replacing as opposed to being misled about the probability of her actually qualifying for the voucher.

This smacks of the governments free loft insulation and cavity wall insulation scam. The number of property's that did not qualify for cavity wall insulation because they were built of stone or other non standard build has been kept quiet by the government. The loft insulation was just as bad, if you qualified for the loft insulation grant but if you had a layer of loft insulation, you were expected to pay for a top up which in my case was £199. It was cheaper to go to b & q and buy the space blanket which cost £64 and lay it myself.
