Lawn turning to moss

I wondered if anyone can help.
We are currently renting. The front garden is north facing so doesn't get much light at all. When we moved in there was already a fair bit of moss in the garden (pobably at about 40%). Over the last few months I have noticed it has been getting more mossy and it must be at about 90% now!
I am wondering if anyone could tell me how to fix this? I am worried because in the contract it does say we have to keep the garden in a good condition.
Is it going to be expensive to fix? We are on a very tight budget at the moment so if anyone knows of a cheap solution. The lawn area isn't very big probably about 4 x 4 meters at a guess.
Thanks in advance

Yes
You need to aerate the lawn with a fork (put fork in and slightly pull up a 1cm or so to let air in, repeat the whole lawn
Then apply a feed that contains iron this will kill the moss
Rake the moss out after it goes brown. Cut the grass and then feed
Sometime you might have to put new seed in patches. Rake the bare patch lightly. Apply seed and put a small amount of soil/compost on top and water lightly every day if its dry
You can get a product called weed and feed that does job too0 -
Thanks Antispam.
Sounds like a simple enough process. Will i find some of the feed mentioned at a supermarket? All the 'local' garden centres are too far away as we don't drive and they aren't easily accessable by bus.
I think we will need to put some grass seed out. The grass that is still left is only a few blades here and there. Theres some areas that are completly moss.0 -
Do you have a Wilkinsons near you? They sell grass seed by weight and it is extremely cheap, especially if you only need a small amount. My last purchase to fix a bald patch in my garden cost me about 36p!
I also find 99p Stores does brand name gardening consumables like feed.
(apologies if I'm not allowed to name shops by actual name.)0
