Powergen

Options
Hi, I hope someone can give me some advice please! I have an ongoing problem with Powergen which started in February 2005 when I changed supplier from Powergen to npower. I waited for a final bill, which never appeared. However, in August 2005, I noticed that Powergen had taken £849 from my account! Upon contacting them, I was told that a bill had been sent. I never received this. I wrote quite a long letter explaining that under the Direct Debit Guarantee they were unable to take money from my account without first notifying me. I told them that I would like a breakdown of what I owe as I disputed that I owed them as much as £849. They subsequently refunded the money but never received a letter from them or any explanation.
This morning I received a letter from Credit Solutions, a debt collecting agency, requesting the sum of £849 payable to Powergen! When I phoned them I was spoken to be a very rude lady who put the phone down on me as I would not give her personal details, such as my mothers maiden name to "set up an account". I told her I did not want an account with them. She told me she already had my details anyway!! Is this against the Data Protection Act?
I then spoke to Powergen who told me that there had been an error and the final bill should have only been for £477.71 and they would speak to Credit Solutions to stop this claim.
Does anyone know where I stand with Powergen? This has been really upsetting for me. I have had no communication with Powergen since February 2005. Many thanks in advance.

    Try writing to this bloke:

    Paul Elliott
    Customer Services Director
    Powergen
    Newland House

    NG1 6PG

Give all the details, and ask for a full and final settlement figure with appropriate reduction as compensation for the stress and aggravation.

    That's what I'd do.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Agree with above but also send a copy of the whole fiasco to Enerywatch
