my wife and I will be looking to have a painted country style kitchen fitted next year, preferably in duck egg blue or sage.Having said that if cost is prohibitive and availability from the major suppliers is unlikely to materialise ,then a cream or ivory alternative would be ok.So far I have looked at Wickes, and they do a cream version but its been distressed which we dont want.I also looked at the various websites and Homebase seem to be one of the cheapest so I am now wondering about value and quality as wellMy kitchen needs to stand the test of time ,eg i dont want hinges giving way and vinyl laminate coming off.Has anyone got any suggestions? thanks

Some kitchens now are actually made especially for you to paint to your own specifications due to the demand for this. I think Gloomendoom only made the suggestion because you mentioned duck egg blue and sage cream.0

buy a new kitchen and then paint it . Make sense of course like buying a new car and then respraying it.No brainer.Anymore sensible suggestions?
You need to get out more!
I friend of mine makes kitchens for the high end of the market. Some he finishes in primer so his customers can paint them (or get them painted) to suit themselves.
And, believe it or not, some people do get new cars resprayed.

My new kitchen is a cream Shaker-style with a lacquered paint finish. It's called Virginia and is by Mereway. I was worried about the potential lack of durability of foil wrapped doors, and my lacquered doors seem to have a lovely, smooth finish.
Also in the Wentworth/Mereway brochure is a wood painted kitchen in Fennel Green. I can't see a duck egg blue, though.
I must admit that I'm not a fan of the distressed look either. To my eye, it just looks like an old, bashed-about kitchen.
The colours you mentioned seem rather popular at the moment, so you should be able to find them at various price levels. Perhaps see what you think of the lacquered versions, like mine? Otherwise, the painted on wood ones are gorgeous - you can touch them up if the paint chips (I'd make sure I found out what paint was used first, though, so I could buy a little pot of it to keep handy, just in case).0 -

so you bought yours straight from a manufacturer? How does it compare pricewise with, say, a Howdens or Wickes kitchen.Looking through their brochure I would say that cost wise they are in a different leagueArgentine by birth,English by nature0 -
I actually bought mine through Wentworth Kitchens (and have been very pleased so far), but John Lewis also stock them (much more expensive). There's also this company who sell Mereway on the Internet, although I have no experience with them: http://www.bathroomskitchensdirect.co.uk/ They do seem to be more expensive than the sheds and Howdens, but they are beautifully made.
I've been told that Mereway use doors from another well-known company, so you could buy cheaper units, but get the same (or very similar doors) if you wanted to save a bit of money. I wish I could remember the name of the company. Perhaps someone else on here does? If I do recall it, I'll post it here.0 -

from what i gather there are companies who make the cabinets(OEMS?) who supply other companies who just fit the doors and drawer fronts, so ther cabinets are fairly standard.A lot of the price difference is down to the finish eg tongue and groove sides, pillars, painted surfaces etc.Argentine by birth,English by nature0
