Unauthorised deduction by Avis

My SIL had cause to rent a car at gatwick after the recent troubles in air travel.
They had departed from Bristol but were offered a return to Gatwick as the first available flight.
There was no choice at Gatwick other than Avis and they needed to get back to Bristol to recover their own car.
Avis caused several problems (failed to give themthe required exit ticket thus causing them to return from the barrier to the Avis desk; the original Tom Tom supplied was faulty; the next Tom Tom was set up in Italian and this caused further delay to get help changing it etc etc)
They safely proceded to Bristol Airport to drop the car off, having no incidents on the way.
This morning they have received a letter from Avis Bristol charging an additional £100 for supposed damage to the bumper ('a small scratch').
My SIL disputes this and says the caR WAS checked on arrival at Bristol and NO damage was identified.
She asked for paperwork and was told it 'would follow'.
Her CC company are saying they can't help with what my SIL says is an unauthorised deduction.
Anyone any advice on this?
Thanks.

Did she get the car checked over fully on return to Bristol? Did the rental agent give you a copy of the vehicle handover sheet signed by you and them? (on it should be a picture of the car showing any marks..).
Car Hire companies can do charge backs but they have to inform you of this (which they have done). Also ask Avis to provide ALL check in/out documents for this vehicle showing damage etc (bet they wont) in it's rental history as the mark may have been missed.
I worked in car hire for several years and if a car was going 'one way' the standard rule was 'get rid of a clapped out piece of crap'.
It is NOT an unauthorised transaction as YOUR SIL will have signed a disclaimer to this effect (it's small print).'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

No, they didn't ask for a signature or offer one and when asked for the paperwork said 'it will follow'.(on it should be a picture of the car showing any marks..).

But only AFTER they had deducted the money which the CC company says they can't do.Also ask Avis to provide ALL check in/out documents for this vehicle showing damage etc (bet they wont) in it's rental history as the mark may have been missed.

If the driver didn't sign any paperwork when they returned the car, the hire company are stuffed. They have no way of proving that the damage definitely occurred while the driver was responsible for the car.0

Thanks Pew Pew, but you are talking rollocks. The OP's SIL should have asked for one and they should have offered one.
My suggestion is the correct one in that the OP's SIL should ask for a copy of all check in/outs for that vehicle. They wont be able to supply therefore will/should get a refund.
When in doubt ask people that know, not people that they 'assume' they know....'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
