McAfee issues or a Virus?

I had the McAfee malware patch problems at work and at home last week, sorted that but on my home laptop I had a McAfee update lat night that removed a couple of programs from my McAfee total!

I first bought McAfee total about 3 years ago and it included "Back up and Restore" and " Wireless network". I know that subsequent McAfee total programs didn't include these but you had to buy them as an extra add on. The update from McAfee I got last night seems to have removed and deleted both of these without warning! I had my wireless network controlled by McAfee and it wiped out my network!

I am now using windows network but McAfee had reset all my settings and it took me ages to reset up my network!

Should a McAfee update be able to remove existing programs or is there something else (a virus?) affecting this?

Any help would be usefull.

    Arg! McAfee....the devil incarnate

If it is causing a lot of problems then one suggestion is to ditch it and find something else. free ones are Avira, Avast or MSE which are far better.

Have a search on this forum for views on McAfee and alternative AVs.

If you decide to uninstall McAfee make sure you use McAfee Removal Tool below.

If you are concerned that you may have a virus just now then you could use the online ESET scanner below.

Also download Malwarebytes the latest version from filehippo.com and run a full scan, make sure you update Malwarebytes before running a full scan. and post the log file here.

Thanks fiddiweb, yes I am seriously considering ditching McAfee, only got it as we use virus scan enterprise at work (which is quite good actually) shame the domestic product is not as good.

    Excellent links, thankyou!
