unemployment benefits

Hi
I started a new job after being on benefits for 6 months i had been there for only two days and then everyone else has now been sacked, the Boss did say that as i have only been there for two days and it was not fair to label me with the other guys. He told the agency he will try to get me a start with the new company which has taken over the Contract.
My wife and i have a small 2 year old son, my wife done a part time job less than 16 Hours per week the owner was always playing around with her money each week so the more hours she worked he never paid my wife. when i got this new job my wife told the owner she will not be back because she now has to look after our son as i am now working.
Will this affect our benefits JSA if i have to sign back on because i will have to claim for my wife.
My wife is going through all payslips and the calendar to check but she knows she is right as when she told the guy i am a trained accountant he went bright red and told her if i was you i would take the money and run, which she wont do.
Any advice please my job could be OK which i will find out this week from the agency.
