Gas hob left on
Not sure if this is the right place for this-sorry if it isn't. I left the gas hob on (medium sized hob on low) for 6 hours and my housemate (sort of landlady) found it. I said I'd give her some money towards the extra bit of the bill it may cause but I have no idea how much. I know this may seem trivial (and definitely stupid!) but thought someone might have an idea of how much I should give?

50 pence should cover0

... and that 50p would cover it left on high, never mind low.0

Through the summer my gas bill is normally 2-3 pounds per quarter despite cooking most days.Leaving a gas ring on low will use a tiny amount compared to using central heating or heating water.
From memory I think I have done the same.I can also remember leaving the oven on for two days.Neither made any difference to my bill.0 -
It could be the housemate/landlord is more worried about the safety aspect. Without an extractor on, was the venting OK. Also was there anything nearby like units that wouldn't like being exposed to for 6 hours, could it have damaged them, could it have caused a fire.
Personally I'd be more worried about things like that than the cost of the gas. So maybe a chat to clear the air.0 -
THanks! I'm not sure how she'll feel about me handing over 50p but you've put my mind at rest. At least I'm not the only one as well!Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Yeah I understand that and have apologised for any risk caused. No damage done as there isn't a hood or anything. I would hate her to be out of pocket though. THanks for the view and I did think of that - luckily it was on very low. She only noticed when she walked past and heard a little noise in the breeze. I am very scatty at the moment!!Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. When the bill arrives for the period of when the gas was left on compare it to the previous bill and pay the difference (if any!!). xx0

If anyone would like to come round my house and leave a gas ring on for a few hours, I will also graciously accept someone paying me the difference between my Dec-Feb bill and my Mar-May bill.
Can't say fairer than that.
