It's all a moot issue now - went to the property for the check-in inventory and the roof and internal walls have collapsed  It's not going to be habitable for weeks if not months. Will have to ask current landlord if I can extend my current stay despite having handed in my notice - if not I'm in a bit of a pickle. New LL is under no obligation to rehouse me as I have not signed any contract with him yet, just the holding deposit and application fee.

it does not cost anything at all to cross out the name and put the new address on the outside of the envelope and put it into the letter box.

Look up 'opportunity cost'. My labour is charged out at £20-£30 an hour so if some landlord expects me to waste my time being a free redirection facility because he is too thick to update his address details he can go whistle.

As it happens I think this clause is in my agreement too. The landlords letters go in the bin, like to see him prove anything.

Just the standard mail service. If a letter is delivered to you by mistake, you can just cross out the address, write "REDIRECT TO:" + the new address, it will get redelivered for free. Of course this requires you to manually re-address all the letters yourself.

What happens if its important? He'd never know just because you feel your time is worth £20 - £30 per hour? Thats pretty ridiculous.

We all have other things to do but wouldn't you expect your tenant to redirect mail to you? I would.

Thats such a combative attitude to have. I'm glad you're not my tenant.

Being nice and doing things like this cost nothing and take 2 minutes. If it really makes you ache so much why not invoice him per letter that you re-address?

£20 per hour, thats 33 pence per minute. You can get receipt paper from WHSmiths if you like.

""Thats such a combative attitude to have. I'm glad you're not my tenant.""

sadly this combativeness is getting more and more prevalent on here... i spend less and less time here as there seems to be a recent move afoot to bash all landlords all of the time.. and i get sick and tired of defending the VAST MAJORITY of landlords who are good

if the vast majority of landlords were bad then why do the Arbitration Services of the deposit protection schemes only have to arbitrate in less than 7% of tenancies ?

Even in the Julie Rugg report we find that she accuses Shelter of grave bias against landlords.....

landlord-bashing has become endemic..... and its not right

I thought you weren't allowed to do this anymore? I've been putting all my old tenants' mail in a new envelope and putting a stamp on it...

still works, i left a load of sticky labels with my new address on it at my old house, and asked them to stick it on top of the address but keeping my name shown. still getting mail!
