Tesco cooked chickens might be a little on the skimpy side for the £4 they normally charge but definately worth £2 - thanks for the heads up! No reason you couldnt de-bone these and freeze the meat too, great for a chicken lasagne or to add to other pasta / rice dishes, home made rissoles etc.

And I put the carcase in the slow cooker to make stock, which is a brilliant base for soup or when making risotto.

What do you do with your carcass? I hate throwing it away because there is always meat left on it but usually do. So I could just chuck it in a pan of water and use it for cooking rice? Do you cut anything off first? Do you sift everything out at the end?

BTW, £2 for a cooked chicken is a bargain, saves on the leccy bill cooking it too. I am going to get a couple today. Hot chicken sandwhich for lunch. Yum.

These are very small, we call them pigeons, but for £2 its a good price will have the breast with salad, curry the legs and make soup with the rest, 3 meals for 2 of us
Anyone can cuddle but only the Welsh can cwtch :)
  • well I just come back from my local tesco and NONE priced at £2 (apart from half a chicken) - was all £4.25 or 2 for £7 (I think)..... no signs to say any offer or anything.... Has anyone had any luck in there own store?? :(

You must have very small appetites lol!

I bought one today looking for a "large" one. Tesco really should get pulled up on trade descriptions because there is no way these are large chickens. They should just call them "cooked chickens".

I deboned and skinned the chicken and the weight of all the meat was 420 grams. For £2 I am happy with the amount as will be good in a few chicken and bacon salad sandwiches.

You can also strip off all the meat and skin you don't want toeat and give it to the dogs - they adore it!
    Hope is not a strategy.
