There are two size factors to consider;
1. The file size in kb.
The file size is important as it affects the web page loading time, the larger the size the longer the
download time. This may deter people using dail-up internet access from viewing your auction.
2. The width x height size in pixels.
The photo needs to fit the PC screen of people viewing auctions, scrolling across the screen can again annoy
viewers. This size depends on screen resolutions, currently the smallest size is 800x600px. To fit this size
a photo width of no more than 700px is suitable. The height is of lesser importance.
Typically Ebays picture service displays photos of about 400x300px and so if using ebays picture service go for a width of
400px and a height of 300px. This will aid upload time and help ebay to speed up the photo processing time.
Using an image is a good way to adjust your photos, so take the pictures with the camera on the 3mp setting
then get to work with an image editor and crop, resize and compress the photos.
Good and free image editor is The Gimp which can be downloaded from www.gimp.org , this is also sometimes available on free CDs
given away with PC magazines.
Information for using The Gimp to crop, resize and compress photos for ebay can be found here www.erns-eporium.co.uk/images_files/selection.htm
If you use Photobucket then you are not restricted to the ebay format of 400x300, also it is possible to add
additional photos to the listings without incurring any more ebay charges. This is done using html option
to format the listing.0 -
I normally just use the 1MP setting on my camera, then adjust the pics to about 600 pixels (longer dimension), so about 600 x 450 for uncropped pics.0
